The short version
You answer a quiz; we score your predefined relationship answers, may generate three personalized follow-up questions, and use the completed private context to write your reading. We keep your answers and your reading so your link keeps working, we email you about your reading, and we use analytics and ad-measurement tools that you can switch off below. We never sell your personal information. Email hello@patternsinlove.com to see or delete everything we hold about you.
What we collect
- Quiz answers — your first name, age range, answers about relationship patterns and scenarios, and—when your quiz includes them—three generated personalized questions and your written answers.
- Email address — asked during the quiz so we can send you the link to your reading.
- Payment details — handled entirely by Stripe. We receive a confirmation and the last details Stripe shares for receipts; we never see or store your card number.
- Usage data — which steps of the quiz and report you reach, and (only when tracking is on) analytics and advertising identifiers set by Google Analytics and Meta.
- Companion invitations — if a buyer invites a partner or friend, we keep the invitation type, optional recipient email, private token, consent timestamps, claim status, and expiry. Partner mode uses the scored profile fields named on the consent screen; friend mode does not combine results.
- Plan progress — if you start the 30-day dashboard, we keep its start date, completed days, timezone, and any reminder time you opt into so it works across devices.
- Workspace state — we keep the last paid-workspace tab, last reading chapter, and chapters opened so navigation follows you across devices.
- Campaign information — if you arrived from an ad or a link, the campaign tags in that link (for example
utm_source) and the click identifier, so we can tell which campaigns work.
How your reading is made, and who processes your data
Your predefined relationship answers are scored into eight relationship dimensions and an archetype. When personalized follow-ups are enabled, those predefined answers are first sent to OpenAI to create three private questions. Your scored profile and completed predefined and personalized context are then sent to OpenAI to write the free and paid reading. Written follow-ups personalize the narrative but do not change your scores. OpenAI processes this data under its API terms, which do not use API inputs to train its models.
- Stripe processes payments.
- Resend delivers our emails.
- Render hosts the application and database.
- Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies or cross-site identifiers.
- Google Analytics and Meta (Facebook/Instagram) measure how the site and our ads perform. When tracking is on, we also send purchase and sign-up events to Meta from our server with your email address hashed (one-way), so ads can be measured without exposing the address itself.
These providers act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes beyond what their terms allow.
Tracking, cookies and your choice
Outside the EU, UK and Switzerland, analytics and ad measurement are on by default and you can turn them off here. Inside those regions Google Analytics and Meta do not load until you accept. Your choice is stored in this browser and copied to sessions created from it so server-side ad measurement follows the same choice.
What stays in this browser
Before a quiz is completed, unfinished predefined answers, the current question, and any unsaved personalized-answer draft are stored in this browser so a refresh does not erase them. Server-saved questions and answers can also be resumed. Browser drafts are removed after successful completion. Your tracking choice and a random visit identifier also stay in the browser so we can remember the choice and connect pre-submission funnel events to the session created at the end of the quiz.
Older versions stored 30-day-plan completion locally. If that legacy value exists, the dashboard reads it once, writes the completed days to the database, and deletes the browser copy. Current plan progress, reminders, companion entitlements, invitations, and paid-workspace state are stored in the database—not as a local cache.
Emails
We send the link to your reading, and — until you buy or unsubscribe — a short series of emails about your reading and the full version. Every email has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing never affects access to a reading you have already received or bought. Purchase receipts and the weekly emails that are part of the full reading are sent as part of the service you bought.
A companion invitation is a one-off service message requested by the paying reader. Daily plan reminders are off by default and are sent only after the buyer switches them on; they can be changed or stopped in the dashboard.
Private companion reports and partner views
A friend's companion report is separate: the buyer cannot see its answers, results, reading, progress, email, or dashboard. A partner's individual report has the same privacy.
A shared pattern is created only after both people consent. It shows first names, archetypes, attachment styles, primary love languages, conflict styles, and eight dimension scores, plus insights derived from those fields. It never shows the other person's raw quiz answers, generated personalized questions, written follow-up answers, private report, journal prompts, notes, email, or payment details. The paying reader can disconnect a partner view at any time; each private report remains separate.
How long we keep it
Your answers and readings are kept so that your private link keeps working. Email hello@patternsinlove.com from the address you used and we will delete your session, answers, reading and payment record (we keep the minimal transaction data Stripe requires for accounting).
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to marketing. If you are in California, note that we do not sell personal information; sharing with Meta for ad measurement may count as "sharing" under California law and is controlled by the tracking switch above. If you are in the EU or UK, our legal basis is your consent (tracking, marketing email) and the contract with you (generating and delivering your reading).
Security, age, changes
Readings are available only through an unguessable private link; keep it private. The service is for adults (18+). We will post changes to this policy here with a new date. Questions: hello@patternsinlove.com.
